(KANSAS CITY, MO.) — The Kansas City Royals designated outfielder Jeff Francoeur for assignment on Saturday.
The 29-year-old Francouer was in the last year of a two-year contract with Kansas City. In 59 games this season, he was batting .208 with three home runs and 13 RBIs in 183 at-bats.
“Jeff made incredible contributions to our ballclub and our community,” said Royals senior vice president of baseball operations Dayton Moore in a statement. “I personally want to thank him for the winning attitude he brought to our clubhouse and our city.”
The Royals called up infielder Johnny Giavotella from Triple-A Omaha to take Francoeur’s roster spot.
