(LOS ANGELES) — The Los Angeles Dodgers announced on Saturday that starting pitcher Josh Beckett will undergo neck surgery on the week of July 8, which will likely end his season.
The 33-year-old Beckett was diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome. The operation, to relieve pressure on a nerve in his neck, will be performed in Dallas by Dr. Greg Pearl. The expected recovery time is three to five months, according to the team.
The Dodgers placed the three-time All-Star on the disabled list May 14. Beckett is 0-5 on the season with a 5.19 ERA in eight starts. He has struck out 41 batters in 43 1-3 innings of work.
