Mets pitcher Matt Harvey allowed four runs in his five innings of work, but left with a 6-4 lead before Scott Rice gave the lead right back in the bottom of the six, allowing three Marlins to score.

Before the series began, the Mets were coming off a four-game sweep of cross-town rivals, the New York Yankees and the Marlins had lost nine in a row.

Greg Dobbs put the game away for good in the bottom of the eighth with a three-run shot to give the Marlins a 11-6 lead.
