Just days after leading the Grizzlies to the Western Conference Finals, the team has definitively decided not to offer Hollins a new contract.  His current contract expires June 30.

According to sources, top assistant Dave Joerger is the favorite to succeed Hollins, who leaves Memphis in the wake of the most successful season in franchise history. The team won 56 games and reached the Conference Finals for the first time.

The Grizzlies gave Hollins permission to speak to other teams, with Grizzlies officials concluding that their ongoing hot-and-cold relationship with the 59-year-old can’t support the idea of a new long-term contract.  Hollins maintained that he wanted to stay in Memphis, but that is no longer an option.

Hollins could still wind up as an NBA head coach next season, with the Los Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets, and Brooklyn Nets all possible destinations.
