“Modern Family’s” Cameron and Mitchell to Marry?

ABC/Peter “Hopper” Stone(LOS ANGELES) — The U.S. Supreme Court’s two historic rulings on same-sex marriage Wednesday could influence the next season of Modern Family.
Cameron and Mitchell, the gay couple played by Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson on the hit ABC comedy, may finally say “I do” in the wake of the Supreme Court decisions, according to series co-creator Christopher Lloyd.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lloyd says, “As you can imagine in Cam and Mitchell’s life, they would be feeling that a door has opened that was closed to them. Wouldn’t it be pretty tempting to think about walking through it?. …From our standpoint, that’s something to explore.”
Lloyd says the characters in earlier seasons did not marry or hold a commitment ceremony because the show “didn’t want to make an overt political statement.”
The Supreme Court’s rulings struck down a part of the Defense of Marriage Act denying federal benefits to same-sex couples, and paved the way for same-sex marriages in California.
