(GREENVILLE, N.C.) — Officials in Greenville, N.C. say a gunman opened fire outside a Walmart Friday, injuring four people before engaging in a shootout with law enforcement.
Community supervisor Lambert Garris says the incident, which began around 11:50 a.m., is now under control but could not give details about the victims’ injuries.
“There [are] reports of injuries, I do not know the extent of the injuries at this time,” Garris said Friday at a news conference.
Police say the gunman, armed with a shotgun, entered the Kellum Law Firm and shot one person before shooting three more people at the nearby Walmart, according to ABC News’ Raleigh-Durham television affiliate WTVD.
The suspect then engaged in a shootout with police in which the officers shot the gunman and took him into custody.
No officers were injured in the incident.
