Phila. Crane Operator Tested Positive for Illegal and Prescription Drugs

WPVI/ABC News(PHILADELPHIA) — A member of the crew demolishing the Philadelphia building that collapsed this week had drugs in his system.
Police sources say preliminary blood tests indicate the operator of a crane at the collapsed building site had marijuana in his system. ABC News has learned the crane operator admitted to taking codeine and other prescription drugs.
Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter was asked about it: “I have not received that information directly. If that were true, obviously that is a significant problem.”
Nutter said every active demolition site in the city is now being inspected for safety.
Six people were killed and 14 were injured when a vacant building being demolished collapsed on a Salvation Army Thrift Store Wednesday morning.
