Prisoner Caught in Mail Fraud Scheme
Published at(BOISE, ID) – An Idaho prison inmate has been linked to a mail fraud scheme that helped him steal more than $64,000. Fifty-three-year-old Mark Brown reportedly used an electric typewriter to forge legal documents, which he then used to make fraudulent claims in major class action lawsuits involving IBM and GlaxoSmithKline. Officials say Brown got away with it by skillfully using his “legal mail” exemption, which prohibits screening from prison investigators. Brown, a former University of Idaho computer science student, reportedly invested the funds in his commissary account.
