Roger Federer & Maria Sharapova Ousted From Wimbledon
Published at(LONDON) — Seven-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer was ousted from the second round of the grass court tournament on Wednesday by 116th-ranked Sergiy Stakhovsky of Ukraine in four sets, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5), 7-5, 7-6 (5).
It’s Federer’s earliest departure from Wimbledon since 2002, when he lost to 154th-ranked Mario Ancic in the first round.
Andy Murray of Britain is moving on to the third round after a straight set victory over Yen-hsun Lu of Taiwan, 6-3, 6-3, 7-5.
On the women’s side, third-seeded Maria Sharapova lost in straight sets to 131st-ranked Michelle Larcher de Brito of Portugal, 6-3, 6-4.
