Senate Confirms Anthony Foxx as Transportation Secretary
(WASHINGTON) -- The Senate confirmed Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx as Transportation Secretary Thursday with a unanimous vote of 100 to 0.
Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., was in the chair when the vote was called at 12:01pm.
"I am pleased that the Senate today voted unanimously to confirm Anthony Foxx as the next Secretary of Transportation," President Obama said in a statement. "Anthony knows firsthand that investing in our roads, bridges and transit systems is vital to creating good jobs and ensuring American businesses can grow and compete in a 21st century global economy. I welcome Anthony to my team, and I look forward to working with him as we aim to modernize the infrastructure that powers our economy."
Foxx has served as mayor of Charlotte since 2009 and spearheaded several major infrastructure projects in the city. He rose to prominence after hosting the Democratic National Convention in August last summer.
Foxx is replacing Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, who said he would stay in the post until a new secretary is confirmed.
