Severe Weather, Twisters Move East

iStockphoto/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — Dangerous storms moved east, with a tornado report in Maryland and storm damage in Kentucky on Monday.
Two people in Woodbine, Md., escaped injury when two structures attached to their home were hit by a tornado, said Howard County Fire and EMT spokeswoman Jacqueline Kotei.
“They were in the main building on the property, which was a house. The actual garage was detached,” she said Monday. “The home was not actually damaged. It was just the [outside] building and the shed so they’re actually doing fine right now.”
Kotei added that neither of the home’s residents were injured.
A tornado strike tossed vehicles in Logan County, Ky., with debris blocking roads in the area. Injuries were limited to cuts and bruises. Several homes in the area were destroyed, according to Emergency Management official Terry Cole.
“It’s one of the worst we’ve had in a long time. Several years back in the ’90s we had one that killed a couple of kids…but this is one of the worst we’ve had in recent memory,” Cole said about Monday’s tornado.
This year’s tornado season started late, but it has been a month to remember for twister weather. Just weeks ago, a tornado brought devastation and death to Moore, Okla., and then 11 days later, the widest path of destruction on record tore through the town of El Reno — more than 2.5 miles at its widest spot.
