Sources confirm that after days of negotiating, the Clippers and Boston Celtics have have agreed in principle to a deal that brings head coach Doc Rivers to Los Angeles, pending league approval.

Rivers will sign a three-year, $21 million contract with the Clippers, which is the same amount he would have made in if he stayed in Boston.

Sources close to the process believe that Chris Paul will resign with the Clippers now that Rivers is in the fold.  Paul becomes a free agent on July 1.

The future remains uncertain for Celtics’ veterans Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett.  Garnett was originally supposed to be included in the trade that brought Rivers to Boston in exchange for center DeAndre Jordan, but the deal was blocked by NBA commissioner David Stern.

The Celtics will receive a 2015 first-round draft pick as compensation for Rivers as the storied franchise begins to rebuild.
