Sources: Penguins and Kris Letang Nearing Deal
(NEW YORK) -- The Pittsburgh Penguins and defenseman Kris Letang are close to agreeing on an eight-year, $58 million contract, reports ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun.
The Penguins offered Letang a $56 million deal on Thursday, but that was rejected. Both sides picked up talks again over the weekend.
Letang has one year left on his current contract and is due $3.5 million next season.
The new deal in place also contains a no-trade clause.
Letang scored five goals, recorded 33 assists, and 38 points in 35 games played this season for Pittsburgh.
