Tony Awards to Be Presented Sunday

SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1370696307364(NEW YORK) — Tom Hanks has two Academy Awards, and this Sunday he has a shot at earning his first Tony Award.  Hanks is nominated for best performance by an actor in a leading role for the Broadway play Lucky Guy, the story of a newspaper columnist during the scandal and graffiti-ridden New York City of the 1980s. The role marks Hanks’ Broadway debut.

The 67th Annual Tony Awards ceremony will take place this Sunday in New York City with Neil Patrick Harris returning as host.

Hanks’ competition in the category includes Nathan Lane for his role in the burlesque play The Nance, and former Frasier star David Hyde Pierce for his work in the comedy Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.

Former Monk star Tony Shalhoub is nominated for best performance by an actor in a featured role for his work in the classic Broadway drama Golden Boy.

The musical Kinky Boots heads into Sunday’s ceremony with the most nominations, 13. Cyndi Lauper wrote the music and lyrics. Matilda The Musical has 12 nominations.

The list of scheduled presenters includes Sally Field, Jake Gyllenhaal, Matthew Morrison, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Sigourney Weaver and Mike Tyson.
