Wall Street Stocks Finish Lower
Published at | Updated at(NEW YORK) — As U.S. markets opened on Monday, they slid on signs of more distress in China’s economy and rising U.S. bond yields. The slide reversed itself, however, by the end of the trading session.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 140 points on Monday to close at 14,660. The Nasdaq Composite closed down 36 points, finishing the day at 3,321. The S&P 500 finished the session at 1,573, off 19 points.
The Dow had lost nearly 250 points on Monday before rebounding. For the Nasdaq, it’s the worst four-day losing streak since August of 2011.
The major averages have been buffeted by worries about the Federal Reserve likely tapering off its stimulus program at some point this year, although the timing is very uncertain.
China’s market saw its worst drop in four years after allowing commercial lending rates to soar. Investors feared the move could also hurt economic growth.
