Wasden: Overturning DOMA Means Little for Idaho
Published at | Updated at(BOISE, ID) – In light of Wednesday’s historic Supreme Court ruling striking down the Defense of Marriage Act, Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden is speaking out about what it means for Idahoans. Wasden says the case will have little impact on the Gem State’s current laws, which prohibit legal recognition of same-sex marriage. In 2006, nearly two-thirds of Idahoans upheld a ballot initiative that classified marriage as exclusively between a man and a woman. Supreme Court justices did not rule on the validity of gay marriage bans currently in place in 37 states. Wasden plans to review the court’s opinion to determine if it creates any conflicts.
