Weekly Jobless Claims Fall Ahead of May Jobs Report

Spencer Platt/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) — Jobless claims came back down last week, wrapping up the month of May by falling under 350,000, the Labor Department reported on Thursday.
For the week ending June 1, the number of people filing for benefits decreased by 11,000 to 346,000. The previous week, claims stood at 357,000.
The four-week average, meanwhile, rose, climbing by 4,500 to 352,500.
On Friday, Americans will get a better picture of how the jobs market fared last month when the Labor Department releases its monthly employment report at 8:30 a.m. ET.
