17 hits and eight pitchers later, the Chicago White sox held on for a 7-5 16 inning victory over the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday.

The game was scoreless until the White Sox scored five runs in the top of the 14th inning.  The Mariners fought back with five runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to tie the game, including a Kyle Seager grand slam.

It was the first game in Major league history when each team scored 5 or more runs in the game when it was scoreless through the ninth.

Alejandro De Aza and Alex Rios each had an RBI single in the 16th inning to put the White Sox ahead for good.

“It was a crazy game and I’ve never been a part of anything like that,” winning pitcher Addison Reed said. “It was just amazing how our guys stayed focused and stayed in the ballgame for me.”
