The S&P 500 also closed at a new high and the Nasdaq finished the day at its highest level since September 2000.

The key drivers of Thursday’s surge: a strong batch of reports about the economy, solid corporate earnings and more words from Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke that he’s going to keep stimulating the economy until he is absolutely sure it can stand on its own two feet.

The biggest winners on the Dow Thursday were United Healthcare, Bank of America and Boeing.

Investors will be keep a close eye on industrial giant General Electric on Friday. The company is expected to report its earnings before the bell. What GE says about the economy here and abroad as well as jobs and manufacturing will likely impact trading on the final day of the week.

Shares of Google and Microsoft may also be key market drivers on Friday. Both have just reported results and both didn’t perform as well as wall street was expecting.  Right now in after-hours trading Microsoft is down nearly 4 percent, Google down 5 percent.  These prices could change depending on what both companies say on their conference calls with analysts in the coming hours.
