Area Police Scanning License Plates

license plate scan

(IDAHO FALLS, ID) – License plate scanners in use among area police departments are raising eyebrows among civil libertarians.   Some departments are taking photos of license plates and storing them in a database, tracking the location of your vehicle and even sharing them with other agencies. That information is then scanned by the FBI to flag possible stolen vehicles. Officials say that information regarding vehicles used in crimes is kept for up to three years after a trial. All other photos are purged after 30 days.
