“We have plenty of guest hosts and we’re going to take our time,” said Walters, 83. “We are not going to be filling it very soon.”

The TV veteran, who earlier this year announced her imminent retirement, also advised potential candidates to refrain from contacting the show’s producers.

“Don’t send us any tapes or resumes!” she said, before turning to Hasselbeck and inviting her to visit. “Come back to us.”

Fellow co-hosts Joy Behar, who is also leaving the show, and Whoopi Goldberg also gave Hasselbeck heartfelt goodbyes.

“I just think you’re the cat’s meow,” said Goldberg. “You’ve been a really good friend to me, and I appreciate you.”

Behar joked, “Won’t you be a fish out of water [at Fox]?!” and added, “I just have to say that I have appreciated your presence here a lot.”

Hasselbeck, 36, confirmed last night that she was leaving the ABC talk show to co-host Fox News Channel’s Fox & Friends.

“I have been a long-time fan of Fox & Friends and am excited to be joining their team in September,” Hasselbeck said in a written Fox News Channel announcement.

Wednesday was her last day on The View.

“The past 10 years have been nothing short of extraordinary,” she said. “I wish the next person or co-host that sits here an extraordinary set of years to come of their own.”
