Bartoli, Lisicki Advance to Women’s Final at Wimbledon
Published at(LONDON) — Marion Bartoli and Sabine Lisicki will both get a chance to win their first Grand Slam title Saturday.
The 23rd-seeded Lisicki and 15th-seeded Bartoli each won their semifinal matches at the All England Club Thursday to advance to the women’s final at Wimbledon.
Lisicki defeated fourth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4, 2-6, 9-7, while Bartoli breezed past 20th-seeded Kirsten Flipkens, 6-1, 6-2.
This is only the second time in the Open Era that the women’s final at Wimbledon features two players who hadn’t won a Grand Slam title.
Lisicki advanced to the semifinals in 2011 at Wimbledon and Bartoli reached the finals in 2007, only to lose to Venus Williams.
Lisicki and Bartoli also become the second-lowest pair of seeded women to meet for the Wimbledon title.
