The firm is based in Chicago, the same city where Boeing’s headquarters is located.

According to Ribbeck Law Chartered, a “mechanical malfunction of the auto-throttle” may have been to blame for the crash that killed three people and injured more than 180 others.  Over 100 people managed to get out of the badly damaged plane without injuries.

The National Transportation Safety Board, which is investigating the accident, said pilots admitted setting the auto-throttle to correct a low aircraft speed in the plane’s approach but the speed never increased.

The law firm is also looking into whether seat belts and evacuation slides might have resulted in unnecessary injuries.

One of the passengers represented by the law firm alleged in the petition, “My husband, my daughter, other passengers and I would not have suffered such terrible injuries if the sliding ramps and the seat belts would not have trapped us in the burning wreckage.”

Asiana Airlines and component part manufacturers are facing separate lawsuits, Ribbeck Law Chartered officials said.
