Braves’ Freddie Freeman Out of All-Star Game
(ATLANTA) -- Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman will not be playing in Tuesday's All-Star Game at Citi Field due to a jammed left thumb.
Freeman jammed his thumb during the first play of Saturday's 5-2 win over the Reds.
"I guess my thumb was in the wrong place," Freeman said. "It's just one of those freak injuries I seem to run into every year."
Freeman was voted in by the fans after beating out Los Angeles Dodgers star Yasiel Puig.
"I think he needs to go," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said on Sunday. "... You never know when that chance will come again."
Freeman finished the first half of the season batting .308 with nine homers and 61 RBI's.
