“I always cringe,” John Fox said after practice. “You never like to see players get injured, particularly severely injured. But you understand when you do this long enough, whether you’re a player or a coach, that this happens. You know, you get them back ready. And you’ve got some guys that have worked hard off of injuries last year and it will be no different this year.”

Koppen has played 10 NFL seasons, the first nine with the New England Patriots. His teams have gone 108-28 in games he’s started. While with the Patriots, Koppen started in three Super Bowls, winning two.

To help replace Koppen, the Broncos have agreed to terms with center Steve Vallos.

Vallos, a six-year veteran, has played in 44 career games, starting nine.

He joins Manny Ramirez as the likely candidates to start at center for the Broncos.
