CBS Addresses Offensive Comments from “Big Brother” Contestants

CBS(NEW YORK) — On Sunday night’s installment of Big Brother, CBS responded to criticism over racial, homophobic and misogynist comments made by some house guests by playing for viewers a three-minute montage of previously un-aired discussions.
About halfway through the broadcast, Howard Overby, who’s African-American, and Amanda Zuckerman express their disapproval for Aaryn Gries and GinaMarie Zimmerman, two of the players who had been captured on the show’s live feeds making offensive remarks. Some of the remarks, in censored form, were also aired.
Other house guests who have made controversial comments, including Spencer Clawson, were not singled out Sunday evening. Clawson raised eyebrows by poking fun at Andy Herren, an openly gay contestant.
When Gries and Zimmerman leave the reality show, they’ll be looking for work, as they were recently fired from their “real” jobs when their comments made headlines.
Zimmerman, 32, was released from her position as pageant coordinator for East Coast USA Pageant Inc. over her use of the N-word on the show’s 24/7 Internet feed, while 22-year-old college student Gries was let go by her modeling agency for the anti-Asian and anti-gay comments she was caught making on camera.
