“Despicable Me 2″ Tops Box Office Again
(NEW YORK) -- For the second weekend in a row, Universal’s Despicable Me 2 topped the box office, edging out newcomers Grown Ups 2 and Pacific Rim.
Despicable Me 2 brought in $44.8 million over the weekend and has made almost $230 million in North America since it opened.
The poorly-reviewed Grown Ups 2, starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock and David Spade as immature childhood friends, still managed to take second place. It made $42.5 million in its opening weekend, $2 million more than the first Grown Ups made on its opening weekend.
Pacific Rim, director Guillermo del Toro’s giant monsters versus giant robots flick, took third place with $38.3 million. Starring Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, and spectacular special effects, Pacific Rim has received mostly good reviews.
