Dwight Howard Lands in Houston
(HOUSTON, TEXAS) -- The Houston Rockets officially welcomed their new addition, Dwight Howard, with a press conference on Saturday. The deal is worth $88 million over four years.
"It means a lot to me just to have a fresh start and have an opportunity to write my own story," Howard said.
Howard chose the Rockets over the likes of his former team, the Los Angeles Lakers, and other potential suitors, including the Dallas Mavericks and Atlanta Hawks.
"I don't think people understood the fact that I got traded to L.A., and now I had a chance to really choose my own destiny, and this is the place where I chose and I'm happy about it."
Howard's press conference brought back an abundance of Rocket dignitaries, including former big man, Hakeem Olajuwon.
The former Rocket great gave Howard quite the praise.
"He is the missing piece where he can really bring the team to a championship contender," he said.
Howard joins a Rocket squad that already bolsters all-star James Harden. The club reached the 2013 NBA Playoffs but fell to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round.
