According to a post on his website, the 66-year-old Elton was diagnosed with “appendix abscess surrounding retrocaecal appendicitis,” after he fell ill during his current European tour. He is currently taking antibiotics and is expected to undergo surgery in the U.K. in the coming weeks.

Sir Elton’s postponed dates include a headlining performance at London’s Hyde Park that was scheduled for Friday. A concert will still be held in Hyde Park that day, with previously-announced artists Ray Davies of The Kinks and Elvis Costello remaining on the bill.

Elton will not resume his tour until early September, when he’s expected to be fully recovered, according to his rep.

Elton has a handful of dates lined up in the U.K. and Germany for the first half of September, including a just-announced concert for London’s iTunes Festival on September 12. He kicks off a month-long residency in Las Vegas on September 18.

Elton’s new album, The Diving Board, is due out September 24.
