Felix Hernandez And Seattle Mariners Shut Down L.A. Angels, 6-0
(SEATTLE) -- Mariners ace Felix Hernandez tossed eight shutout innings as Seattle (42-52) blanked the Los Angeles Angels (44-48) Saturday night, 6-0.
The 27-year-old Hernandez (10-4) gave up seven hits, while striking out four over 109 pitches. Reliever Yoervis Medina came in the ninth for the Mariners and struck out two of the three batters he faced to end the game.
First baseman Justin Smoak provided Seattle with most of their offense, going 2 for 3 with a run and 4 RBIs. In the sixth, he took the first pitch he saw from Angels starter Jered Weaver (3-5) and sent it over the center field wall for a two-out, three run homer.
