Researchers interviewed 17 women whose average age was 60 and who experienced a heart attack, and found that not only were most of the women afraid of having sex afterward, but most of these women were too shy to bring up the topic with their doctor.

The study found that most women want more information from their doctors and “of the few women who talked with their doctors about resuming sex, most initiated the discussion and were not happy with the quality of information they got.”

Despite their fear, many of the women resumed having sex within four weeks.

The study highlights that “talking about resuming sex should start with the treating cardiologist while women are in the hospital and should continue through their recovery.”
