(CHALLIS, ID) – The 5,000-acre Lodgepole Fire in central Idaho is nowhere close to being contained, and is inching closer and closer to the city of Challis. Nearly 500 firefighters have set up camp around the Community Center. Authorities believe Challis will fair just fine, since the fire will be making a transition from timber to sagebrush soon, making it easier for crews to battle the flames. Though other fires in the area have been sparked by lightning, officials remain unsure if the Lodgepole Fire was human-caused or not.
