GETTY 7913 GrownUps? SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1373360886827Charles Eshelman/FilmMagic(NEW YORK) — The comedy with one of the most star-studded casts of the summer opens on Friday.

Grown Ups 2 features real-life pals Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, David Spade and Kevin James, as well as returning player Salma Hayek and newcomer Shaquille O’Neal, and many other friends of producer/co-writer/star Sandler.

Coming on the heels of the 2010 hit — and only missing original cast member Rob Schneider, who was too busy with his real-life role as a new dad to participate — Rock explains why the gang was so eager to get back together.

“…[W]e just like hanging out together, we like being around one another,” says Rock.  “We love each other’s company.  We are friends, that’s what this movie is all about friendship, about a bond that cannot be broken.”

The comic, who describes the sequel as, “not even just for the whole family,” but rather “community entertainment,” said, “Hopefully we’ll get to do it again someday.”

While Sandler’s relationship with many of his co-stars goes back to his days on Saturday Night Live, he says everyone clicked right away with newcomer Shaquille O’Neal.

“He is one of the funniest guys all of us every met and one of the sweetest guys no doubt on the street,” Sandler says, recalling, “every kid ran up to him and he was nice literally with everybody who said hello to him.”
