John Kerry’s Wife in ‘Good’ Condition, Starts Rehab

Mark Wilson/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) -- The condition of Teresa Heinz Kerry has been upgraded to "good," State Department spokesman Glen Johnson said in a statement Thursday.

Heinz Kerry, the wife of Secretary of State John Kerry, suffered seizure-like symptom last Sunday while vacationing in Nantucket and was eventually brought to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston for treatment.

At the time, the 74-year-heir to the Heinz Company fortune was listed in "critical" condition.

Since then, Heinz Kerry has improved although the family remains tight-lipped about her exact diagnosis while a heart attack, stroke and a brain tumor have been ruled out by doctors as the cause of her seizures.

The next phase of her recovery will take place at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.  For the time being, Secretary Kerry "will split his time between Boston and Washington, and resume his official travel schedule soon," Johnson said.
