But Philadelphia Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon is not impressed.

“To me, it’s an absolute joke,” Papelbon told MLB Network Radio. “It’s really kind of stupid if you ask me.”

In 27 games, Puig is batting an impressive .443 with eight home runs and has driven in 17 runs. He’s sparked the Dodgers and has become one of the most dangerous hitters in the National League.

Even though the Dodgers have gone 16-11 since Puig joined the team, Papelbon thinks Puig has earned the right to be mentioned among the game’s best.

“The guy’s got a month, I don’t even think he’s got a month in the big leagues,” Papelbon added. “Just comparing him to this and that, and saying he’s going to make the All-Star team, that’s a joke to me.”

This past weekend, the Phillies faced the Dodgers and Puig went 7-for-16 and scored five runs in the series. Papelbon did not appear in the series.
