Jordan Spieth Wins the John Deere Classic

Michael Cohen/Getty Images(SILVIS, Ill.)  --  Jordan Spieth accomplished something Sunday that neither Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson ever could.  He won a PGA Tour event as a teenager.

The 19-year-old Spieth outlasted both David Hearn and Zach Johnson on the fifth hole of a playoff Sunday to win the John Deere Classic.  He became the youngest winner on the PGA Tour in 82 years.

"I didn't think it would happen this early," said Spieth. "I had a plan. I guess the plan got exceeded."

Spieth doesn't turn 20 for another two weeks, but with the win Sunday he has punched his ticket to next week's British Open Championship.

After starting the day six shots behind third-round leader Daniel Summerhays, he fought his way into a playoff with three-straight birdies on the final few holes.  Spieth was able to hold off Hearn and Johnson in the playoff to capture the victory.

Spieth is the first teenager to win on the PGA Tour since Ralph Guldahl took the Santa Monica Open in 1931.
