Lakers Make Their Pitch to Howard
Published atBeverly Hills, Calif. — The Dwight Howard Sweepstakes continued on Tuesday as the Los Angeles Lakers made their run at the All-star free agent big man.
The Lakers pulled out all the stops in their meetings, including Howard’s Laker teammates, Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash, head coach Mike D’Antoni, and GM Mitch Kupchak.
“At the meeting, we told him how important he is to the Lakers team, franchise, fans and community, and why we feel this is the best place for him to continue his career,” Kupchak said in a statement. “We are hopeful that Dwight decides to remain a Laker.”
This culminates five meetings for Howard and his representatives with NBA teams, including the Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Golden State Warriors, and the Lakers.
The Lakers can offer Howard the most lucrative deal, five-years, $118 million.
