Berkman has been working hard to come back, but said on Thursday that he’s considered walking away from the game he loves or shutting it down this season.

“I’ve definitely thought about it,” the 37-year-old told The Dallas Morning News. “But I haven’t reached any final decisions on it. Hopefully I’ll do the best that I can and help the team. It could also depend on what the team’s needs are. This is an uncertain time of the year for everybody.”

The six-time All-Star spent most of his career with the Houston Astros, where he put up big numbers.  He won a World Series title with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011.

The Rangers have former MLB slugger Manny Ramirez in their current Triple-A affiliate, but the team has no plans on calling the 40-year-old up.
