Magic Sign Rookie Forward Victor Oladipo
Published at(NEW YORK) — The Orlando Magic have taken a giant leap forward in getting back to relevancy by signing first-round pick Victor Oladipo on Sunday.
Oladipo, 21, was the second-overall pick in the draft, and the Magic feel as though they got the best player in the draft. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Still, under the collective bargaining agreement, first-round picks sign two-year contracts, and the team holds options for two additional years.
To celebrate his new contract, Oladipo shined in his professional basketball debut. Against the Boston Celtics on Sunday, Oladipo scored 18 points, pulled down six rebounds, dished out seven assists, and also had five steals. While he also had six turnovers, Oladipo — who spent the majority of the game playing point guard — was still excited to get out on the court.
“They definitely helped me a lot today,” Oladipo said when asked about his teammates. “Without them I probably would have been all over the place and they kind of settled me down, helped me through my mistakes and just helped me be poised out there. It was fun.:
In his sophomore year at Indiana, Oladipo averaged 13.6 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
