“President Jacob Zuma visited former President Nelson Mandela this evening, 10 July 2013, and found him still critical but stable, and was informed by doctors that he was responding to treatment,” Zuma’s office said in a news release.

Zuma said, “We are encouraged that Madiba is responding to treatment and urge the public to continue providing support and showering him with love which gives him and the family strength.”

Monday marked exactly one month since Mandela entered a hospital in Pretoria.

The 94-year-old civil rights leader was admitted to Mediclinic Heart Hospital on June 8 for a recurring lung infection.

Little details have been provided about Mandela’s health during this latest hospital stay.  The Nobel Peace Prize winner has been hospitalized four times since last December.

Madiba, as Mandela is affectionately known, will turn 95 on July 18.
