GETTY E 051211 EmmyAward? SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1374151454467Mathew Imaging/FilmMagic(NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif.) — The nominations for the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced Thursday morning in North Hollywood, Calif., and history was made in the process.

The Netflix series House of Cards scored nine nominations, marking the first time in Emmy history that a series distributed exclusively online was nominated for an Emmy. The nods include one in the prestigious outstanding drama series category. House of Cards stars Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright were also nominated in the outstanding lead actor and actress in a drama series categories, while Jason Bateman was nominated for his work on the Netflix series Arrested Development, which originally aired on Fox before moving online.

Emmy-winning Breaking Bad actor and two-time Emmy winner Aaron Paul and fellow Emmy winner, and this year’s Emmy host, Neil Patrick Harris helped reveal the nominees.

House of Cards actress Kate Mara had been scheduled to co-announce the nominees, but minutes before the big reveal, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences tweeted, “@KateMara will not be able to co-host today’s #Emmys Noms, but @aaronpaul_8 will so we are in good hands!”

Reportedly, Mara’s flight from Sante Fe, where she was on location filming, couldn’t take off due to a mechanical malfunction.

The 65th Annual Emmy Awards, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, will be held at the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 22.
