Obama to Tout Health Care Law’s Rebates

MANDEL NGAN/AFP/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) — President Obama is kicking off a public push to sell the cost savings of his signature health care law to the American people, touting $500,000 in rebates that will go out this summer.
In remarks Thursday, the president will highlight one “concrete” way that Americans who have health insurance are being impacted by the law, according to the White House.
Roughly 8.5 million Americans will receive rebates from insurance companies of an average of $100 per family. The rebate is a penalty to companies that violated the cap and spent too much on overhead.
“The Affordable Care Act is holding insurance companies accountable and putting money back into the pockets of over 8.5 million Americans,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters on Wednesday.
Recipients will receive either a check in the mail, a reimbursement directly to their credit or debit card, a reduction in their future premiums, or their employer will provide a check, refund or future credit.
