The team is offering up the deal to anyone who purchased Hernandez jerseys from the team’s pro-shop. They will offer the service Saturday through Sunday.

Hernandez was recently charged in the murder of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd, who was a semi-professional football player. About an hour after Hernandez was arrested, the Patriots released Hernandez.

“I liked the player,” Patriots’ fan Christopher Sousa said. “I was really excited (when Hernandez was drafted). I stocked up on a lot of his jerseys. One of my favorite players on the team next to Brady. I think it’s too bad what he did.”

After the first hour of the exchange, the most popular jerseys picked up by fans were Vince Wilfork, Tom Brady, and Chandler Jones.

The 23-year-old Hernandez was an emerging star for the Patriots prior to his arrest. After three seasons in the NFL, Hernandez was one of Tom Brady’s go-to receivers and caught 18 touchdowns in 38 career games played.

As of 5pm, over 1,200 Hernandez jerseys had been exchanged. 20 percent of the jersey’s exchanged were in youth sizes.
