Harvin was in New York on Tuesday to receive a second opinion on his injured hip from Dr. Bryan Kelly. He had been experiencing soreness in his hip right before the Seahawks began training camp.

It is unclear how long Harvin will be sidelined following the surgery, but there is speculation that he could miss three to four months.

Harvin started training camp on the “physically unable to perform (PUP)” list and could remain there until the team knows how long he needs to recover. If he starts the season on the PUP list, Harvin must miss the first six weeks and would have to return to practice by the end of Week 11 to avoid missing the entire season.

The Seahawks announced that the surgery will take place on Thursday.  Harvin signed a six-year contract extension with the Seahawks worth $67 million after coming over in a trade from the Minnesota Vikings this past offseason.
