Scott Halleran/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has his eye set on the all-time rushing record.

Peterson fell just eight yards shy of Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record last season, but has set an even bigger goal of reaching Emmitt Smith’s all-time record.

In an interview with the Star-Tribune, Peterson said that he has circled 2017 as the year the record will be broken.

“I’ll say Week 16. There it is. Week 16 in 2017. Whoo. That’s pushing it, huh? But hey, pushing it is the only way to do it. You know it,” Peterson told the paper.

Peterson has 8,849 yards under his belt for his career.  Smith’s record sits at 18,355 yards and Peterson will have to average 120.3 yards per game to break the record.

“I’ve been in the league seven years. I’m already right around [9,000]. Calculate it out…Let’s think. Maybe get a couple 2,000 yard seasons…I’ve got…Hmmm…2017,” Peterson said of reaching the record.
