Pettitte Becomes Yankees’ All-Time Strikeout Leader
Published at(MINNEAPOLIS) — Andy Pettitte is now the New York Yankees all-time strikeout leader.
Pettitte passed Whitey Ford when he struck out Minnesota Twins first baseman Justin Morneau in the fifth inning of the Yankees 10-4 win over the Twins Monday night.
“I feel very fortunate to be around for as long as I have,” Pettitte said. “To be able to be mentioned with Whitey’s name is obviously always an honor.”
Pettitte now has 1,958 strikeouts as a Yankee, passing the record Ford set in 1967.
The 41-year-old Pettitte is in his 15th season as a Yankee.
