Rangers Place Berkman, Tepesch on DL
Published atThe switch-hitting Berkman, 37, injured his hip while running to first base during the Rangers’ loss to the Houston Astros Saturday. Berkman hurt the hip further in the sixth inning while running the bases after teammate Geovany Soto’s home run.
“When I went up there the next time left-handed, I could feel it but it wasn’t as bad,” Berkman said. “In that at-bat (Soto) hit that home run, I thought it was a double at the time, so I took off. When I did, it grabbed even worse.
As for Tepesch, he felt soreness in his right elbow while playing catch Saturday. Rangers manager Ron Washington says the issue is not serious, and the move to put Tepesch on the DL is precautionary.
The Rangers activated Joakim Soria from the 60-day DL and recalled pitcher Cody Burns from Triple-A Round Rock to take the open roster spots.
