NFL? SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1375073580734National Football League(NEW YORK) — After learning they lost tight end Dennis Pitta for the season, the Baltimore Ravens signed tight end Visanthe Shiancoe to a one-year contract Sunday.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the contract is worth the veteran’s minimum.

“Dennis is out for the year. It’s the type of thing he’s not going to be able to come back from this year,” Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said. “There’s enough damage in there.”

The 33-year-old Shiancoe has caught 243 balls and 27 touchdowns in 10 NFL seasons. His best season was in 2009 with the Minnesota Vikings when he caught 56 balls and 11 touchdowns.

Shiancoe is expected to be behind Ed Dickson on the depth chart.

“The red zone is going to be critical for your big receivers and he (Shiancoe) and Ed are going to be extremely important down there, and he’s done well there,” Harbaugh said.
