Report: Lakers to Amnesty Metta World Peace
Published at(LOS ANGELES) — The Lakers will exercise the amnesty clause with Metta World Peace’s contract, according to the Orange County Register‘s Kevin Ding.
World Peace, formerly known as Ron Artest, will go on the amnesty waiver wire and be available for teams that have salary cap space, before becoming an unrestricted free agent. The 33-year-old had recently exercised his player option with the final year of his deal for next season.
The move, which cannot become official until Wednesday, July 10, surprised Laker star Kobe Bryant.
“Personally I’d keep Metta and make a run with the unit we have and just add a few pieces #keepthepeace #lakersstilldeciding,” Bryant tweeted.
World Peace helped the Lakers win the NBA title in 2010.
