Report: Stafford Signs Contract Extension with Lions

7 9 13%20Stafford%20A?  SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1373407753290Leon Halip/Getty Images(DETROIT) — Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford agreed to a new three-year contract extension worth $53 million on Tuesday, according to ESPN.

He had two years remaining at $23.5 million under his previous contract. The new deal will keep Stafford in the Motor City through the 2017 season and he will receive $43 million in guaranteed money.

The Lions selected Stafford out of Georgia with the first overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft. In 45 games with Detroit, he has passed for 12,807 yards with 80 touchdowns against 54 interceptions.
